Lets make an Exception

 Just out of college, a computer engineer, a thinker. Wanted to write some real code. Did write it. Took my 1st snippet of code on to a live production environment. It ran well. Phew!!! No issues there. And then i got my first ever app to write. You know, the one with the user interface. That is when i had my tryst with the end user, the customer, the purpose and the fool.

Its was running smoothly! Flawless was the word. Then all the weird cases start to crop up. Things you would have never imagined, would stare you in the eye and say, "I dare you to get past me." That is when you realize that the 1st step to writing good production code is being exceptionally good at Exceptional Handling. There is no point in calling yourself a good coder if you can not even think of the assumptions and errors the end user will make while running your application all by himself and then blame it all on you for not handling things so very trivial. I would like to trade places with him and then watch the fun. But, the customer is always right, primarily because he is paying me good money to write the code. So, i might as well take the blame, or not, by writing good code.

So here are a few pointers i got over this last one week's experience at work on exceptions and their handling:

The wild-card problems have been uploaded here!

Three problems has been uploaded. Each of them carry equal weightage.
Your job is to solve the problems, and present the output in the format specified in the problem.

Your Submission Should Include :
1. Your "solution" in a ".c" or ".cpp" file
2. the output file (in the format explained with each problem)
3. A text document showing
    a) Team no.
    b) Team name
    c) Member 1 name and email
    d) Member 2 name and email

NOTE :
-only the teams that registered for Coding but could not participate in Round 1 are eligible. OTHERS NEED NOT SUBMIT.
-Do not submit code that does not compile
-Even if your logic is correct, but if it does not generate the output in the specified format, it will be disqualified!
-Teams failing to attach any of the required documents will not be considered for assessment.
-The solutions should be mailed to : "aittechmail@gmail.com" in a zipped folder. The folder should have the name same as the "team no." of the submitting team.
-The contest is a first come first serve one. The first two correct solutions make it to the finals, rest are not entertained.
-The submission will close as soon as we get the first two correct solutions.
-Contest formally closes on Thursday, 28 Jan,2010 1159 hrs.

Coding Round 1 Results

Yes guys, the results of the Coding Round 1 are out! The teams that qualified to Round 2 are as follows :

Heartiest congratulations to the qualifying teams. And for those who could no get to participate in round 1, we will be coming up with the WILD CARD entries tonight! so be prepared!

Note :  knowledge of file-handling is a must for wild card problems as well as the round 2 problems, as from now on, the judges are automating the process of code-checking so the inputs and outputs need to be in a particular format which will be specified as and when required!

Round 2 is scheduled on Saturday, 30 jan 2010 at IT Lab, 10.30 onwards!

OVERVIEW

The CODING event explores the ability of the students to apply their programming skills to solve problems related to logic. The problems shall be related to mathematics, geometry or something from your everyday experience. The event shall consist of 2 rounds. Round 1 shall be an elimination round out of which the best teams will participate in the 2nd round.
