BUSINESS MODELING

"Money doesn’t talk, it swears."

Business Modelling challenges students to explore their creativity in the alleys of money. It will check how well you can talk and understand the language of money. We are going to test your entrepreneurial skills through this event. So remember when you form a team, it is not a team that you are forming, but a Company!!!  Business Modelling provides the opportunity, but it will really be up to the competitors to come out with innovative plans, through which they can harness maximum profit. Using their wits, the competitors will unleash their ideas and make products depending on various factors like, raw materials, the demand, capital, etc. and take the judges on a dream run. Technically, students will really have to put in their brains and come up with their own innovative business game plays.



WHAT ARE THE START AND END DATES?
The competition starts on the 6th of Feb and ends on the 6th of March 2010.

Every bonafide student of Army Institute of Technology, Pune is eligible.

HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR THE COMPETITION?
1. A Team may consist of up to four (4) eligible students (Same branch, but not necessarily same batch).
2. Three (3) teams per branch will participate.

ROUND 1:
SIR....wait for it.....PRIZE...
Yes its a surprise...
Hence no description here. You need not worry since there are no eliminations, but the round plays a crucial role in holding the grip in the competition.

ROUND 2:
Required Elements:
A Business Vision Statement, submitted as an electronic file in one of the following formats: .doc, .docx, .pdf, .txt along with a corresponding video/power-point presentation which should include voice notes so that you make your plan clearer.
Optional Elements:
An idea which could really be implemented and brought down from paper to ground level will be highly appreciated and has chances of taking away the much coveted prize money.

Report Format:
Here are mentioned some few points which are expected of you in the report.

What product are you going with?

What is your proposed capital?

What are the retail prices you are going to fix for your product?

How much do you expect from your product in terms of profit?

What part of the world you are going to target, which could prove to be a good market for your product?

What all raw materials do you require?

What will be the various costs incurred by the company like labour, transportation etc?

Why would the plan be best implemented as the model you proposed?
NOTE: These are indications for what your brochure should look like.

Your Vision Statement will be evaluated by a panel of esteemed judges based on the judging criteria below. The top four(4) to six(6) Companies will be selected from the pool of all Round 2 entrants and will advance to the next stage.

ROUND 3:
After that the eliminations, the 3rd round is quite exciting and competitors get to interact with the college crowd and display their innovative ideas and products to the public at the Raman theater. Judges will be interacting with the competitors as a part of the crowd.


JUDGING CRITERIA:

30% - Product Idea: How relevant is the product? Is it a new idea all together or an old one taken up in a different way? How many people are really interested in the product? What is the reach of the product? Is it such that anyone can use it, either from an urban or rural area?
15% - Capital Required: The amount of Capital required. Are you able to pull off more business with lesser money? Is the proposed capital justified? Or is it just an exuberant figure?
15% - Resource Allocation: How well are you employing your resources and capital? have you made the best possible use of all the resources? Have you overlooked any resources?
30% - Profit harnessed: Simply put, HOW much of profit have you made or likely to make?
10% - Presentation: How well has the Model been presented in the ppts/videos? How well are you pitching in the product to prospective buyers?

Scoring System - A simple numerical scoring system will be used. Each judge will give for each judging element a score in the range 0-10.
